Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers,

Hope that you are well and have enjoyed your week.

Congratulations to the P&F for their outstanding work in organising our SCC Colour Run and Splatular. Our students, staff, parents and grandparents enjoyed the fun, multitude of colour and copious slime that was evident throughout the afternoon. Thank you Sarah Foster and Kelly Savski  for their time, effort and energy they have dedicated to the success of the day. We greatly appreciate the support of the many parents volunteered in the running of the event  and for the sponsorship of their child/ren. It was a brilliant afternoon and we look forward to the next SCC Colour Run and Splatular.

National Sorry Day 2022 is acknowledged on  Thursday 26 May and is a day when we pause to remember the Stolen Generations of Australia’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It leads us into National Reconciliation Week which is held each year between 27th May and 3rd June.

The theme for National Reconciliation Week 2022 is Be Brave. Make Change. Reconciliation Week is a time for all Australians to learn about our shared histories, cultures and achievements, and to explore how each of us can contribute to achieving reconciliation in Australia. May Reconciliation Week be an occasion where we consider our nation's history, acknowledge past hurts and move forward creating welcoming hearts and spaces for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

Thank you to Mrs Herring, Mrs Orphin and Aunty Shaz for their organisation, reflection and insightful words during our Reconciliation Week Liturgy yesterday. Members of Year 5 and 6 students retold the Dreamtime story - Gang Man Gang where outstanding in their storytelling and acting.

Our Year 3 and 5 students have participated the annual NAPLAN testing in Writing, Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy. Thank you to Mrs Perre, Mrs Disibio and our Year 3 and 5 teachers Mrs Griggs, Mrs McLeod, Ms Moretti, Mrs Rathbone, Mr Lowrie and Mrs Lace for their preparation and students of our students throughout Weeks 3 and 4.

On Friday 27 May, there will be planned teacher industrial strike action. Our school will remain open for supervision only due to minimal staffing. Parents and carers may choose to keep their child/ren at home on this day.

Wishing you a sensational weekend. Thank you for your ongoing support of our wonderful school - St Columbkille's, Corrimal.

Take care
Brad Colquhoun - Principal
