My classmates and I clung to each other, our fingers and wrists crossed. I knew of course, but wasn’t allowed to speak the words that made my heart beat a million times an hour. I stare at the screen, my pulse racing. Kirli Saunders revealed the secret I had been forced to keep, “And the winner of the Wollongong Community Greening is……. Liv-“ Screams envelope me, as hands around me grasp my hands, their fingers brushing my skin as questions replace the hoarse cheering. My lips hurt from the grin stretched across my face.
