National Simultaneous Storytime
National Simultaneous Storytime is an annual event held by the Australian Library and Information Association that has been held each year since 2000. Every year a picture book, by an Australian children's author and illustrator is read simultaneously in libraries, schools, pre-schools, childcare centres, family homes and bookshops around Australia, as part of Australia's Library and Information Week. The event aims to promote the value of reading and literacy, using an Australian children's book, that explores age-appropriate themes, and addresses key learning areas of the National Curriculum for Foundation to Year 6.
This year the event was held on Wednesday 22 May. Many of our classes at St Columbkille's particpated in the event, reading, viewing and discussing the text throughout the day. The choosen text this year was 'Alpacas with Maracs' written and illustrated by Matt Cosgrove and published by Koala Books. All our students enjoyed reading and engaging with the text.
