World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation

On Wednesday 4 September the St Columbkille’s community gathered for a liturgy and celebration focusing on the stewardship of God’s creation. Mrs Susie Crick from the local ‘Surfriders’ organisation gave a powerful presentation about caring for our earth, and in particular our oceans. Our Enviro Ninjas, with help from Mrs Russo and Mrs Emmett, led the celebration and introduced a new rap song to help the students remember to ‘scrunch it up and chuck it in” our blue bins. A huge thank you to Mr Zhi Fang who will be organising the collection and removal of our soft plastics to the local Coles store.

Mini Vinnies Gathering

Last Friday (September 6) Harper, Emily, Samuel, and Luca went to the Xavier Centre in Wollongong to discuss what we have achieved as a part of the Minnie Vinnies team at St Columbkille’s. We set up our own table so other schools could look at what we had done over the past 12 months. We played a simulation game which helped us feel the danger and sadness of being a refugee. In the afternoon they presented awards to volunteers and students. During the day, some students from schools, participated in a dress up competition for the Most Formal and the Most Craziest outfit. Unfortunately we did not win but were given a chocolate for participating. Thanks to Mrs Herring for taking us. It was a great day!

Catholic Mission Launch

On Wednesday 18 September our school captains and vice captains will attend the annual Catholic Mission launch. This year we travel to Nowra to St John the Evangelist Church. Following this our Mini Vinnie members will be organising activities and fund raising events to celebrate the month of ‘Soctober.’ The money we raise helps communities, both local and worldwide, to bring fullness of life to all. Thank you for your continued generosity. 

Reconciliation

Our second preparation evening will be held next Wednesday 18 September at 6.30pm. We continue to keep these students in our prayers as they prepare to celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation. The sacrament will take place on Wednesday 25 September from 9.30-11am. Parents are welcome to attend but are not required on this morning.
