Principal's Message

Dear Parents and Carers

Hope that you have enjoyed a sensational couple of weeks.

This week we celebrated Refugee Week with the theme ‘Celebrating the Year of Welcome. The theme has a number of important points about this week that include:

  • It raises awareness of the issues affecting refugees. The theme aims to highlight aspects of the refugee experience and help the broader community to understand what it is like to be a refugee.
  • It helps to make Refugee Week a national celebration. The theme provides a focal point for events across Australia, uniting separate activities into a single nationwide celebration.
  • It promotes harmony and togetherness. The theme unites individuals, communities and organisations from many different backgrounds behind a common cause. The common theme is a reminder that, regardless of our differences, we all share a common humanity.
  • It broadens the impact of Refugee Week. The theme provides a common, cohesive message which can be promoted across the country, helping to maximise the effectiveness of awareness-raising activities.

After 32 years of service to our school community, Mrs Sue Samways retires today - Friday 19 June 2020. She has undertaken many roles during this time including the cleaning, making morning teas and lunches for staff, parent and student functions, washing, labelling and stocking the second uniform shop and many, many other jobs that often go unheralded and unrewarded.  We thank Sue for all the 'little extra's', the great pride in her work and countless hours that she has dedicated to St Columbkille's, Corrimal and for this we are truly thankful.

Take pride in what you do.

The kind of pride I’m talking about is not the arrogant kind: it’s just the whole idea of

caring – caring fiercely in what you do.

We wish Sue and her family every happiness moving into the future and she has promised to continue supporting the second hand uniform shop. Congratulations Sue and well deserved.

Semester One Interim Reports and booking for Learning Conversations were made available on Compass yesterday. We greatly appreciate the work of our staff in completing reports on students learning for Semester One and the opportunity to hold optional Learning Conversations across Weeks 9 and 10 (please refer to attached information). Thank you once again for your work during the remote learning phase in supporting both the teachers and your child/ren with learning.

On Tuesday night, the P&F had the experience of their first Zoom meeting. It was a wonderful opportunity to discuss where we were during COVID-19, where we are at now and where we would like to go for the remainder of the year. It was great to see our team and some new faces. Our next meeting will be in term 3 also via Zoom on a date to be confirmed.

Wishing you a fantastic couple of weeks. If you need anything please let me know.

Take care,

Brad Colquhoun (Principal)
