Dear Parents and Carers,
As the season of Lent draws to an end and we move into Holy Week, it provides us with an opportunity to reflection on and strengthen our faith through pray, sacrifice and serving others as Jesus did. Easter Sunday presents us with an enlightened sense of hope, a strengthening of our faith and our a building of our ability to serve and ‘Love One Another’.
'We ask the risen Jesus who turns death into life, to change hatred into love, vengeance into forgiveness, war into peace' Pope Francis.
Thank you to Mrs Herring (Religious Education Coordinator), our staff and students for their work in presenting a beautifully reverent Holy Week celebration on the Paddock yesterday. It was a wonderful opportunity for our school community to pray and celebrate together.

Holy Week/Easter Celebrations
Yesterday we celebrated Holy Week/Easter as a school community on the paddock. Thank you to the students for their reverence and participation, the parents for their organisation of costumes/items and to the staff for composing their special scene. This weekend being Easter Sunday we rejoice in the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Harmony Day
Thank you to all those families who sent in special artefacts/items related to their heritage. It was wonderful to acknowledge the many countries we are associated with.

Haydon in Year 5 brought in some clogs to represent his Dutch heritage and a kilt and clan map related to his great-great grandparents’ ancestry. Haydon and his family wrote: “My nana’s mum and dad migrated from Scotland in 1928. They would be over 120 years old if they were alive today. Their surname was ‘Roberts’. They were from the ‘Robertson’ clan. Every clan has a special tartan.”
St Columbkille’s Community Newsletter
The Parish Outreach Ministry realises the need for more communication within the Parish, especially for those who have been unable to attend Mass over the past year, via a monthly newsletter. This newsletter will be an outlet to anyone who would like to provide information about events and happenings within our parish. Our Year 6 Leaders of Community will provide information about class/school happenings with regards to religious education. The newsletter will be delivered via Compass each month.
Primary WEN Day
Report by our Year 5 students – Isla, Izzy, Cameron and Christian
On Friday the 26 March we went to St Paul’s Albion Park and attended a WEN day. It stands for Wollongong Environmental Network and we learnt about Laudato Si' and got to meet Jack Berne. Jack started the ‘Fiver for a Farmer’ campaign which raised 1.8 million dollars for drought in Australia. It started by him watching a BTN clip.
We got to meet a lot of different people from different schools. After morning tea we made no sew bags and wrote a prayer. After lunch we talked about what we can improve at our school and our badges were awarded.

Project Compassion
Thank you to some very kind and generous students in Year 4 for running 2 lolly guessing competitions. Thank you to Ruby, Ilueka and Indy group 1 raised $19.15 and Bronte, Milly and Nikita group 2 raised $19.80. Thank you for your generosity and giving up your time to raise this money for such a special cause.

The Corrimal Branch of the RSL is celebrating its annual ANZAC Dawn Service on Sunday 25th April, commencing at 5:30am. Our school has been invited to attend this significant local event in honouring those men and women who have served, and indeed continue to serve, our nation so proudly.
We would like as many students as possible to come together as a group to represent our school community in the ANZAC Day Dawn Service.
Details of the event and permission can be located on Compass under events.

Australian Early Development Census 2021
Between May and July this year, our school will be taking part in the Australian Early Development Census (AEDC). This is a nationwide census/survey of early childhood development held once every three years. The AEDC is an Australian Government initiative run by the Department of Education, Skills and Employment and includes all children in their first year of full-time school.
The AEDC provides vital information to communities about how children are developing in the crucial early years. AEDC data is relied upon by schools, early childhood organisations, researchers and government to inform planning and improve services and supports for children and families.
The AEDC Instrument is completed by teachers about children in their first year of full-time school. The AEDC is voluntary and is not a school test. The information collected gives a picture of how children are developing before they start school in five key areas or domains. It shows what is being done well, and what can be improved. This is why it is important for all children in their first year of full-time school to be included in the AEDC.
If you do not want your Kindergarten children to be included in the collection of data, please inform the Kindergarten teacher. Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact me via the school office.
